"Proud mum": Opinions divided after mum praises teen daughter for punching bully in the face

Bianca Austin, wife of former soccer star Charlie Austin has divided the internet after posting a tweet praising her daughter, Mallayla, for punching a bully in the face.

Last week, she tweeted: “After weeks of being bullied by the same girl, numerous phone calls to the school and nothing changing, today when being called names my daughter finally punched the bully in the face.

"Proud mum,” she wrote.

After weeks of being bullied by the same girl, numerous phone calls to the school and nothing changing, today when being called names my daughter finally punched the bully in the face👏🏻👏🏻 proud mum👏🏻

— Bianca Austin (@BiancaAustin90) March 13, 2023

The tweet, which now has over 2 million views and 17,000 likes, generated varying responses from those who sympathise to those who believe that hitting back is unacceptable.

“Probably deserved!” commented one user.

Bianca replied: “I told the school how proud of her I was for standing up for herself when they rang up to tell me Mallayla would be sanctioned for retaliating violently. No child should be able to make school hell for another child day in day out”.

“We all have our breaking points and can only be pushed so far. Does she feel better now she’s stood up for herself?” commented another user.

“No, but she's hoping the girl will leave her alone now. What is the right course of action here?!

“Also she didn't "bully" back. Bullying is repeated behaviour,” she wrote, defending her daughter’s actions.

Bianca also tweeted that her daughter had no malicious intent and only did it because she wanted to “be left alone to quietly enjoy school”.

Image: Twitter

Elvis actor reveals his shock condition after filming

Elvis star Austin Butler has revealed the toll that portraying the King of Rock and Roll took on him after he spent three years immersing himself in the life of Elvis Presley.

In a new interview with GQ, the actor explained that the morning after shooting for the film had officially wrapped, he woke up in “excruciating” pain.

“I woke up at four in the morning with excruciating pain, and I was rushed to hospital,” he told the publication.

Butler had contracted a virus which stimulated appendicitis, leaving him bedridden for a whole week.

“My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis,” he said.

Along with the preparation and method-acting, the film’s prolonged production certainly wouldn’t have helped Butler’s case.

Having been originally cast in 2019, production and filming were delayed when the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

According to GQ, producers offered to send Butler home to have a break from production during the early stages of the pandemic, but he chose to stay and continue embedding himself into the role.

The 30-year-old ended up turning his entire apartment into a sort of “detective scene”.

“Just images of Elvis everywhere, from every time period,” Butler explained.

“I think the film would have been very different if we had started shooting at that point, and I’m grateful I had the time to let myself marinate.”

Buter also spoke about meeting Priscilla Presley and her and Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie, who were both involved in production. He recalled walking away from a meeting with them with “tears” in his eyes.

Both Lisa Marie and Priscilla have shared high praise for Butler and Elvis, which is set to be released in cinemas on June 23.

Image: @austinbutler (Instagram)

Grandma of child left on bus gives health update

Queensland toddler Nevaeh Austin, who was left on a Central Queensland bus for six hours, appears to be defying the 5% chance of survival she was given by doctors – and now her family want answers over the near-fatal incident.

The three-year-old was left in the back of a bus on a sweltering day outside her childcare centre in Gracemere. Now breathing on her own, the family want answers.

The toddler remains in intensive care in a stable condition at the Queensland Children's Hospital after she was revived on the floor of Le Smileys childcare centre Wednesday afternoon in Gracemere, south of Rockhampton.

Her grandmother Ms Parker said she is angry and doesn't understand how it happened, after she was “forgotten” by staff at 9:30am.

"You do not expect a phone call saying 'I'm sorry'. That doesn't cut it. It's not good enough.

"This is a little girl. She's someone's daughter. She's someone's granddaughter. She's someone's sister. She's someone's best friend.

It comes after police revealed Nevaeh was the only child driven on the Central Queensland childcare centre bus before she was left inside for about six hours, she was then found unconscious in 28 degree heat around 3:15pm.

Ms Parker says she will fight to ensure this never happens again.

"I'll make sure this never happens again. I'll die fighting for it. I will give up my life for my grandchildren. I'll give up my life for my children," she said.

The toddler’s mother and father remain at her bedside at a children's hospital in Brisbane, where she was transported by air on Wednesday. Her father, Shane Austin, shared doctors are treating Nevaeh for possible kidney failure and are conducting a deep brain scan.

He said his daughter was the loudest and most energetic child and at the heart of her daycare centre but remains gravely ill, adding that the family were deeply distraught. Doctors have confirmed the child is in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Shadlow did not want to speculate as to whether Nevaeh would make a full recovery.

"We will leave no stone unturned in relation to the investigations," he said.

"We will also have photographic and our scientific, forensic officers attending the scene [on Thursday], just so we can cover every base and get to the bottom of exactly what has happened."

The team will also look at who was coming and going from the centre throughout the day. Detective Inspector Shadlow said the staff involved were "cooperating to a degree", but legal advice had been sought.

Images: Nine

Absolutely devastated: Man's punishment for 5-year-old turns fatal

A man has been arrested after his attempt to discipline his fiancé’s son took a turn for the worst.

The soldier in the US state of Alabama was charged with reckless murder after he allegedly forced his girlfriend’s five-year-old son to get out of a car at night along a road.

The young child died when he was struck by a vehicle.

Army Sgt Bryan Starr, 35, went on to surrender himself to Russell County sheriffs after he was charged with 5-year-old Austin Birdseye’s death.

Starr admitted to investigators that the boy began acting up in the car as they travelled on a highway near their home Sunday night.

He went on to punish the boy by pulling his vehicle over into a church parking lot and making the boy stand outside in the rain.

The child’s mother was not in the vehicle, he added.

Starr lost sight of Austin but knew something was wrong when cars stopped in the middle of the road, as there the little boy had been struck by an oncoming Toyota Avalon.

Sheriff Heath Taylor said the road was dark and the driver who struck him is not at fault, in a press conference on Monday.

“We have their information and we’ve spoken to them and will speak to them again. But at this point, there’s no indication that they had any chance of not hitting the little guy,” Taylor said, as reported by the Ledger-Enquirer.

The child died in hospital and Starr was charged with murder because he showed reckless disregard for the child’s safety, police said.

An online campaign that was created to raise funds for Austin’s death said the little boy often sang loud “at the top of his lungs” to songs but the sheriff says he still could not understand his would-have been stepfathers’ actions.

“What do you say to that? What is your thought process when you tell a five-year-old to get out of the car on a rainy night, because they were being loud in the car?” he said.

“It’s just heartbreaking.”

The GoFundMe set up to support the family has far eclipsed its $5,000 target.

“Austin was always the centre of any impromptu living room dance party, the wonderful little boy who would chat about almost anything and with anyone in the grocery store, was the one who knew all the words to every song,” the page says.

“He was always loving and never let any opportunity pass him by to enjoy fun. We are absolutely devastated by Austin’s passing.”

Diana's former butler sadly reveals what The Crown got right

The Crown is quickly becoming one of the most talked about shows of 2020.

Ever since Season 4 dropped on November 12, there has been endless discussions over everything from Gillian Anderson’s depiction as Margaret Thatcher to the very Spanish representation of Australia.

But the biggest talking point is the accuracy of the show, particularly when talking about the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has given his two cents, claiming most of what was seen on the show is true, and that the producers could have “gone further” with it.

"Josh O'Connor plays Prince Charles as a rather uncaring, cold person. And I'm afraid that's what I saw behind closed doors," Burrell tells The Sun.

"He was married to probably the most beautiful woman in the world. But he didn't look after her, and that's what comes across in The Crown."

The show’s depiction of Charles and Diana’s marriage suggests things were rocky from the very beginning, with the princess feeling unsupported by her husband new royal in-laws.

Infidelity is also shown on both sides, with a particular focus on Charles’ ongoing closeness with Camilla Parker Bowles, whom he is now married to.

But many royal experts and those close to the Prince have taken issue with it, saying it is “trolling on a Hollywood budget”.

But Burrell believes the portrayal didn’t go far enough, revealing a moment that didn’t make it into the script.

"I would have put in another scene with Prince Charles telling Diana when she comes downstairs wearing a beautiful black-and-white dress, just to please him, and he said to her, 'You look like you belong to the mafia'," he added.

The royal family has not addressed the show directly, though it is believed that they’re concerned.

Niles from The Nanny reveals the one thing he never understood about the hit show

The Nanny had six wildly successful years between 1993-199 and ended with Fran Fine (who was played by creator Fran Drescher) married to her boss Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy).

Niles settled down with his former arch rival — and Mr Sheffield’s colleague — C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane.)

The Nanny

However it is the latter love story that Davis couldn’t quite wrap his head around.
“That’s the only part that I never really bought, to tell you the truth,” he admitted to news.com.au.

“C.C. and I had been so oil and water — I didn’t buy that we would end up married. But I had to play it, because that’s what they wrote ... I don’t think I’ve ever expressed that to anyone before!”

The 70-year-old originally thought that the odd pairing may mean an extended future for C.C. and Niles.

“The only reason I thought it could have worked would be if they were planning a spin-off, like The Niles and C.C. Show, which I would have loved — but they didn’t go with that idea.”

He may not have liked it, but Davis can still understand why the writers felt the need to have the butler and C.C. live happily ever after.

“I guess they were just wanting to tie up the loose ends.”

The characters small feuds in the show became a cornerstone of the program - making it the unforgettable classic that it is today.

“The luckiest thing that could have possibly happened was that we knew each other for six years before The Nanny,” Davis said.

“Once I realised she was going to play that part [C.C.], it was just so natural. We had an ease so we just were the perfect fit, right from day one.”

Niles was famous for his quick quips and one-liners, and a lot of that wit was actually inspired by the actor’s true self.

“The writers watched me carefully in the early days of the show,” he explained.

“They started to write in my voice. And because I have a wicked side to my humour, they picked up on it.”

While Davis loved his experience on the show, there was one star who didn’t quite agree.

“It wasn’t a fun experience,” Madeline Zima, who played little Gracie Sheffield, told The TV Page in 2013.

“There was just a kindness and a sensitivity that didn’t exist on the set of The Nanny. They treated me more like a prop than like a human being.”

Davis believes it boiled down to Zima’s attitude.

“There was always the sense with Madeline that she was just an unhappy child — it was her nature. It was noticeable,” he explained.

“I think the writers picked up on her unhappiness, and they wrote it into her character ... It’s why Gracie always seemed unhappy and was in therapy.”

Princess Diana’s butler on Harry and Meghan

Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has weighed in on Meghan and Harry, saying they will survive whatever is coming towards them because they’re in love.

Burrell worked for the Princess as her butler and personal assistant before she tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997.

He was there to witness Diana and Prince Charles struggle with media scrutiny after their fairytale wedding in 1981.

He says the main difference between Prince Harry’s parents and his own relationship is that Diana and Charles “didn’t have love”.

“They didn’t have what Harry and Meghan have,” he told Reuters. “They didn’t have love.”

According to Burrell, Princess Diana and Prince Charles were “very, very close to each other” until Diana gave birth to Harry, which changed their entire dynamic.

This was also documented in biographer Andrew Morton’s book Diana: Her True Story, in which Morton revealed that the first comment Charles made when seeing Harry was: “Oh God, it’s a boy.”

Charles had reportedly always wanted a girl, and the comment forced Diana to shut herself off.

Burrell was then asked about the speculation the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may move to Africa, and he said: “I hope we don’t lose Harry and Meghan because they are a tremendous asset to the royal family, and to Britain.”

Former butler reveals the one royal rule we all missed

A former royal butler has revealed a surprising rule everyone follows in the palace.

In the BBC series Miss Holland, butler Grant Harrold explained the royal method that involves following four easy steps that are non-negotiable in the palace and amongst royal circles.

Mr Harrold was a member of the household of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and currently lives on Highgrove Estate – so it’s safe to say he knows what he is talking about.

Mr Harrold shared the royal rules enforced by the palace for drinking tea:

1. Pour the tea from the teapot

2. Add milk to the cup after the tea, never do so beforehand

3. Stir your tea back and forth, never in a circular motion. Don’t allow the spoon to touch the sides of the cup when stirring.

4. Sip delicately from the cup, don’t slurp.

Drinking tea has historically been seen as a status symbol among the upper class, using it as an opportunity to showcase their best china.

Meghan Markle has also adapted to the royal rules of tea etiquette, meeting the Queen for the first time at tea.

Mr Harrold explained the reason why stirring tea in a circular motion is improper.

He told Business Insider, “If we stir in a circular motion we can create a storm in a tea cup and see the tea coming over the sides which we should never allow.

"If the spoon touches the sides it makes a clinging sound and we don't want that at the afternoon tea table."

Do you drink your tea this way?

Mum’s heartbreaking plea after 22-year-old son’s death from testicular cancer

Dylan Butler should be here today, going to work, hanging out with friends and enjoying life like every other 22-year-old. Tragically, however, Dylan lost his battle with testicular cancer last week, just over a year after he was diagnosed with the disease.

Now, his mother Jackie is taking a stand, making an emotional plea to men around the country to ensure the same doesn’t happen to them.

Dylan had already found a lump in his testicles, but it wasn’t until he began experiencing back pain that he finally went to the doctor, believing it to be related to his work as a tradie. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2016.

“Dylan went from testicular cancer to stage four so quickly, he really didn’t have a chance,” Jackie told the Manly Daily. “Part of his personality was not to be a whinger.”

The cancer had spread around his body, including to his liver and lungs, and he was admitted for treatment at Chris O’Brien’s Lifehouse centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Sadly, last week, after months of chemo, stem cell treatments and surgery, Dylan lost his battle.

Jackie is now urging all men – no matter what age – to get checked if they find any lumps.

“I’d say to young men not to be afraid to speak out if they feel there is something wrong and to be persistent as early as possible … Take the time to go to the doctor.”

Ex-butler reveals what really goes on behind closed doors in Buckingham Palace

If you’ve ever visited London and stood at the gates of Buckingham Palace, you’ll no doubt have wondered, what’s going on in there?

The royal family – Her Majesty in particular – are notoriously private, so when former butler Richard Kerrigan decided to spill some of those royal secrets, we couldn’t help but pay attention.

Speaking to Kyle & Jackie O on KIIS FM, the 30-year-old opened up about the rather unusual circumstances in which he first met the Queen.

“I was actually on one of the tables, standing on top of it because one of the flowers had snapped off the big vases,” he recalled. “I had these special overshoes, so I was walking up and down the 180-people table... did a double take over my shoulder and there’s [her] majesty.”

“I was in her house, I was thinking this was quite a normal thing but she’s checking to make sure everything suits her... With the events, we see her all the time.

“She [usually] sits on the other end of the table so she has her own staff to look after her. The [guests of honour] would be on the other end.”

And if you thought preparing for a dinner party or Christmas lunch was a lot of effort, spare a thought for the royal table-setters. “They take a couple of days to lay. It can take up to two days to lay a table,” Kerrigan revealed.

“There’s lots of massive vases, water glasses and cutlery all in at equidistant to the table and plates. There’s a ruler that kind of goes on a circumference so you can see the right angle. So basically when you look down on the side of the table, you can make sure everything is exactly in place.”

But life as a royal butler was a lot stricter than Kerrigan could ever imagine. He once got caught trying to take a photo of himself wearing his uniform when he was stopped by security.

“I tried to snap a selfie, not in the actual hall but in the downstairs where we get changed. I tried to take a picture and instantly, they took it off me,” he said. “I just wanted it for mum, to show her.”

Kerrigan also had the honour of working at Prince Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding. “It was an amazing experience,” he said.

“The security was heightened through that because it was a prestigious event. But it was great, it was amazing to be rubbing shoulders. But after a while, you kind of do get used to it and you had to relax.”

Abalone

“Once I had a guest that required a specific abalone from Perth. So we had to get a private plane to go and pick it up to be delivered ASAP.”

2. Rouge wombat

“A family requested to see Australian wildlife during their stay but wouldn’t leave their room.

We contacted a registered wildlife handler and arranged to have a wombat and koala brought into the hotel. Trying to keep the wombat from eating the $10,000 couch was an interesting task.”

3. In-room shopping mall

“A celebrity band requested we arrange an in-room shopping experience from a wide selection of luxury retailers. We had to contact each retailer separately and convince them to bring a rack of their latest lines into Crown and be shown in a room full of their competitors. This wasn’t easy however managed to get over 15 retailers into a Crown Villa together and the guests completed their shopping without having to leave their hotel floor.”

4. Medieval thrones

“During the stay of a well-known celebrity couple we were requested to arrange a surprise medieval-themed birthday party. We had to go with them to costume shops, try on costumes for the guests and staff, sourced thrones for guests to sit at, medieval themed cutlery and goblets ... the whole lot.”

5. Surprise over-size private jet

“A guest requested to land his private jet — an Airbus A380 — at Essendon Airport. Due to the

"size of the aircraft, the runway at Essendon was too small. With little notice to arrange an alternative, we contacted Melbourne Airport and negotiated to rent a private hangar for the landing and sought special permission from airport security to allow his driver to meet the plane.”

6. Outsourced marriage proposal

“A guest requested an Amazing Race style proposal all around Melbourne, finishing in a

hotel room with a diamond ring on the bed. The guest gave us some places that were special to them as a couple and why, then we had to think up some clues and contact each venue to place envelopes in appropriate locations; the guest delivered the ring to our team and we placed it on the bed and kept the last clue with us. When the woman made it to us we escorted her up to find the ring before her partner came in to surprise her.”

Source: News.com.au.
